Santa Ana winds expected
A moderate to strong Santa Ana wind event will occur today, resulting in very dry conditions across most inland areas, as well as strong and gusty winds in the coastal slopes/foothills, inland valleys and mountain passes. This will result in extreme fire behavior, dangerous driving conditions for high profile vehicles due to strong cross-winds and blowing dust, debris/tree limbs on the roadways and possibly power outages.

Winds are expected to be northeast to east at 25-35 mph with gusts in some areas up to 55 mph. Humidity will be from 5 to 10 percent, making wildfire danger extremely high.

Pack 675 Scouts raise funds
Cub Scouts from Pack 675, dressed in their uniforms, were selling kettle corn, white cheddar popcorn and caramel corn on Saturday, Oct. 7 outside big Vons, 10675 Scripps Poway Parkway. The Cub Scouts staffed two tables, one at each exit, as fathers of the boys watched nearby. The Scouts’ enthusiasm made it hard for shoppers to resist purchasing a few items from the boys.

Oktoberfest a big success
A large crowd attended the Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club’s Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Aviary club location, 9875 Aviary Drive.

Attendees, including children, were treated to a climbing wall, a wrecking ball game, an Astrojump, a live DJ and a henna tattoo artist, among other activities. Food trucks were on hand to serve a selection of tasty meals.

Beverages in the beer garden from Ballast Point Scripps Ranch and Newtopia Cyder proved to be very popular. This annual event was such a hit that it took a while for the crowd to clear out long after it ended, as friends continued to mingle and laugh among themselves.
