The Scripps Ranch Marching Band will hold a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s, 9480 Mira Mesa Blvd., on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 8 to 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 each, and half of the ticket sales benefit the music program. Senior Pictures: Oct. 14 is the last day to have senior portraits taken at Prestige Portraits for inclusion in the yearbook. ID Card pictures are not used for the yearbook. You must have a formal portrait taken. Students who have taken their portraits have until Nov. 3 to make their selection online; otherwise it will be picked by the studio. For those who have not taken a senior portrait and want to be included in the yearbook, a photographer will be on campus Oct. 10 and 17 to take a yearbook pose only. They will provide coats and drapes. In order to be put on the shoot list, seniors must sign up with Ms. Brady in Room 426, to be put on the schedule. This is the last chance to have a senior photo for the yearbook. Contact Prestige Portraits, (858) 935-6969.
Seniors who had portraits taken at other studios must bring in a disk with their portrait from their photographer in order to be included in the yearbook. The deadline is Oct. 27.
Senior Baby Pictures are being collected until Oct. 29. Pictures must be submitted on CD or USB thumb drive. See Ms. Brady in Room 426 for questions.
Senior Ads are on sale at the finance office until Nov. 9. Pick up a flyer in Room 426 or at the finance office. Ads will not be due until Jan. 12, but need to be purchased by Nov. 9 to save space in the yearbook for them.
Flu vaccine: Flu season has arrived. Contact your primary care physician for a vaccination. Several students have already tested positive for the influenza virus and have missed up to five days of school. Sing ‘N Speak Spanish: Sing ‘n Speak Spanish® is a five-year program that makes learning conversational Spanish easy and fun. The educational goals are high, but teaching is in a playful manner – with songs, humor, puppetry, games, role-play and a strong emphasis on the use of vocabulary in conversation. A music CD, a songbook and workbook keep Spanish learning fun throughout the week and reinforce vocabulary at home. Classes meet throughout the school year with a maximum of just 12 children per class. To learn more, visit www.singnspeak.com/frequently_asked_questions.html.

Pledge Drive: Support the students and teachers by making a tax-deductible donation to the Miramar Ranch FFA to keep the enrichment programs in place. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and always voluntary. Large or small, your contribution matters. Every dollar raised stays at Miramar Ranch, and because the FFA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, your donation is tax deductible within the limits prescribed by law. Returning pledge forms by Thursday, Oct. 5, with or without a donation, counts toward participation. Visit bit.ly/2xdW6gv.
Each class that reaches at least 90 percent participation will receive a Popsicle party and each class to reach 100 percent participation will have a chance to win an extra enrichment class (Art Corps, Media Center, or Super Science)! It’s Choir time: The Miramar Ranch school choir is returning this all. Practices will be held every Thursday after school starting Thursday, Oct. 5 and continuing through the beginning of December. Meet after school in the multi-purpose room and practice from 12:10 to 1 pm. The program is accepting third-graders through fifth-graders to join. There is room for a limited number of students, so respond quickly. Deliver your registration form to the office; place it in an envelope with “choir” written on the front and put in the red box. A confirmation will be sent by email if your child has been accepted into the choir program. The theme for the winter program will be December Nights. The cost per child is $80. (The money paid goes directly to the FFA so please make checks payable to Miramar Ranch FFA). If your child is interested, sign up and return the bottom portion of the flyer to school as soon as possible. Find the flyer here: bit.ly/2fNNVNf.
Box tops: Each year, Miramar Ranch Elementary earns more than $1,000 just by collecting box tops. Here is how you can help:
Parents, start to collect box tops, found on all kinds of products from cereal to tissues and everything in between. Place your box tops into Ziploc bags or envelopes and put your child’s name and teacher’s name on it. There is a collection box in each classroom. The school cannot accept expired box tops. Visit www.btfe.com for a list of participating items, fun printable collection sheets and how to earn bonus box tops simply by scanning your receipt. There will be a fall contest and a spring contest, so be sure to keep clipping year-round.
