Scripps Mesa Fireworks launches campaign
Scripps Mesa Fireworks announced an ambitious goal to return its 4th of July fireworks show in 2026, just in time for the 250th anniversary of the United States. To make that dream a reality, the organization launched a fundraising campaign with a target of raising $75,000.
For more than 50 years, the fireworks in Mira Mesa have been the finale to one of San Diego’s most cherished Independence Day traditions. Since returning from several unfortunate interruptions – including the loss of its traditional staging site at Mira Mesa High – the fireworks have lit up the night skies three times, but none of those shows have taken place on July 4th. Now, with a historic milestone on the horizon, the organization is determined to go Back to the Fourth – and its calling on the public to help.
“Mira Mesans lit up the skies for generations on July 4th, and there’s no better time to bring that back than the 250th birthday of our nation,” said Michael Spencer, president of Scripps Mesa Fireworks. “This campaign isn’t just about fireworks. It’s about community, tradition and pride in who we are as Americans.”
The $75,000 goal will cover costs such as professional fireworks displays, permits, security and all the logistics that go into putting on a safe, free and family-friendly event. Scripps Mesa Fireworks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping the spirit of Independence Day alive in San Diego’s Scripps Ranch, Mira Mesa and surrounding communities.
