Scripps Ranch Theatre is preparing to open its production of “Accomplice,” running Sept. 8 to Oct. 8 at the Legler Benbough Theatre on the campus of Alliant International University, 9783 Avenue of Nations.

The story begins in Dartmoor, England at the stylish weekend retreat of the affluent Derek and Janet Taylor, and both adultery and murder are in the air. The audience will learn that all is never as it seems. Who is the hunter and who the hunted, and precisely who is the accomplice? The twists and turns will trigger screams of laughter.

“It’s a really fun play. … It’s a lot of things. You kind of never know what’s going to happen,” said theater spokeswoman Susan Clausen.

The content of the play seems to be rather secretive so that audiences will not know what to expect or know the outcome.

“I can’t tell you or it will spoil it,” Clausen said.

However, Clausen did provide enough description and insight to cause some major intrigue.

“There’s talk of adultery. There’s talk of murder. You’re meeting new characters but you’re never really clear who’s doing what until the very end,” she explained. “It’s a lot of trickery, a lot of misdirection, a lot of deception. But at the same time, it’s one of those shows where you are constantly surprised. It’s not just mystery, it’s very funny as well. It’s definitely a show that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire performance.”

“Accomplice” is directed by Jacquelyn Ritz with an accomplished cast of San Diego performers including Kenny Bordieri, Hannah Logan, Tatiana Mac and Charles Peters.

Performance times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. from Sept. 8 to Oct. 8. Visit scrippsranchtheatre.org.
