Unemployment resources
The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the lives of millions, leaving nearly one in five households to experience either a layoff or reduction in work hours. As a result, record numbers of people are turning to unemployment insurance, straining the infrastructure of federal and state offices with claims. The ground is beginning to shift and lawmakers are looking into ways to expand benefits and other relief programs.
The team at The Simple Dollar enlisted an insurance analyst to create a guide about who qualifies for unemployment, how to apply and what to expect in this new landscape. You can view the guide “Coronavirus Unemployment: How to Apply for Benefits if You Lose Your Job” here: https://www.thesimpledollar.com/financial-wellness/unemployment-insurance-coronavirus-how-to-apply

‘Great Plates’ continues delivering to seniors
More than 1,400 older adults in the “Great Plates Delivered” program will continue to receive three free and healthy meals a day until July 10, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency Announced. The program was set to expire June 10, but the federal government decided to expand it for 30 days.
The initiative is a collaboration between the County and local restaurants to help older adults who are at a higher risk of developing complications from COVID-19, avoid going out to restaurants or the grocery store to get food.
Currently, 31 local restaurants are delivering meals to enrolled seniors throughout San Diego County. The County is reimbursing restaurants for the cost of food, labor and incidentals, using a combination of funding provided by FEMA, the state and the County. For more details, call the County Aging and Independence Services at (800) 339-4661 or visit www.aging.sandiegocounty.gov/greatplates.
