STEP offers drive-thru for military families

Drive-Through Distribution for Military Families in Crisis

(March 20) Support the Enlisted Project (STEP), a San Diego based non-profit serving junior enlisted and transitioning military veteran families through a financial crisis, is ramping up its distributions for families dealing with additional stresses due to COVID-19. Military and veteran families can sign up to be one of the 200 families for the 3/25 distribution through the Facebook page link: @stepsocal

STEP is headquartered in Scripps Ranch, 9951 Businesspark Ave., Suite A.

Diapers, food and paper goods will be distributed, using CDC guidelines, to 200 local military families.

“Combined with what the whole nation is going through, military spouses are experiencing furloughs, cut hours, and even lay-offs. Domestic travel restrictions are keeping families apart. PCS and deployment orders are on hold, affecting housing and causing uncertainty for military families. We need our Armed Forces mission ready and to know we’re here for them,” said Tony Teravainen, CEO & co-founder of STEP.

Food staples and diapers are being distributed in partnership with the San Diego Food Bank and the generous community. Paper products are being donated by Waxie Sanitary Supply company.

“It’s an incredible sacrifice these families make to serve our country. I love San Diego, but it is not the least expensive city to be stationed in. And this crisis really complicates life for them,” said Kerrie Quinby, a San Diego native and recent donor to STEP’s annual baby drive. “If we can help alleviate some urgent expenses, well, it’s the least we can do.”

STEP is also working with local active duty leadership on other ways to support these families outside of its current Emergency Financial Assistance program during this worldwide pandemic. To learn how you can support these efforts visit: stepsocal.org
