Von Wilpert runs for Congress

San Diego District 5 City Councilmember Marni von Wilpert, now in her second term, has thrown her hat into the ring for the 48th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Von Wilpert is a Democrat and resides in Scripps Ranch. She will attempt to unseat longtime 48th District incumbent U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, a Republican.

Ammar Campa-Najjar, another Democrat, is notable among the early candidates running for the same seat. He ran for Congress unsuccessfully twice before.

Von Wilpert graduated from Scripps Ranch High School. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in peace and conflict studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Juris Doctor from the Fordham University School of Law. She served with the Peace Corps and later worked as a civil prosecutor in the San Diego City Attorney’s Office.
