Roustabouts Theatre Co. presents ‘Ripcord’
The Roustabouts Theatre Co. announced its new production of “Ripcord,” the hilarious and heartfelt comedy by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, running Oct. 8 through Nov. 1 at Scripps Ranch Theatre.
Directed by The Roustabouts Theatre Co. artistic director and co-founder Phil Johnson, “Ripcord” stars acclaimed San Diego actors Linda Libby as Abby Binder and Eileen Bowman as Marilyn Dunn, alongside John DeCarlo as Scotty, Samantha Ginn as Colleen and Woman in White, Eddy Lukovic as Benjamin, Lewis and Clown, and Matthew Javier as Derek, Zombie Butler and Masked Man.
Set in the sunny room of a senior living facility, “Ripcord” centers on Abby, a sharp-tongued and fiercely private resident who is forced to share her coveted room with Marilyn, an endlessly cheerful newcomer. When Abby tries to drive Marilyn out, the two women make a seemingly harmless bet that quickly escalates into an outrageous battle of wills.
What follows is a fast-paced and increasingly unpredictable series of pranks, challenges and surprises as each woman pushes the other far beyond her comfort zone. Beneath the comedy, “Ripcord” explores friendship, aging, vulnerability and the unexpected connections that can change lives.
