Falcon Playhouse ‘stages’ another big season

The Falcon Playhouse is the Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS) theatre program, and it just wrapped up “Falcon Night Live” in mid-November.

“The idea of ‘Falcon Night Live’ is where students can perform skits, songs, and different scenes. It’s our version of a talent show,” theatre director and teacher Patrick Garcia said.

The next Falcon Playhouse event will take place Jan. 8 and 9 of 2026.

“In January, we like to do our improvisation show. There are two nights for this show. It’s a way for students to express themselves beyond a script. It’s always really fun,” Garcia said.

The theatre group’s biggest production of the year will be “Mamma Mia” in February 2026.

“We are very excited to be performing ‘Mamma Mia.’ We can’t wait for the audience to dance and sing along with us,” Garcia said.

The last production of the season will be in May of 2026. The performance will feature the “Night of January 16th” in a black box method.

“It’s great to have all the students participate, but one of the main challenges with our after school productions is how busy the students are. They have other extracurriculars. We just always try to make sure that they are not overcommitted,” Garcia said.

All Falcon Playhouse performances are open to the public. Tickets for all the shows are available on the website falconplayhouse.com

“I always look forward to the performances we put on. It’s such a heartwarming feeling to see the students have a great sense of pride in the work they put in on the stage,” Garcia said.

The performances are a great way to raise funds for the program.

“Our biggest fundraisers of the year are our performances – people buying tickets for the shows. In addition to the shows, we will also have an opportunity drawing – which is similar to a silent auction – at our production of ‘Mamma Mia,’” he said. “The fundraisers are so important to us because we are constantly trying to upgrade. We recently were able to repair some of the stage lights and purchase some new lights. We are in constant need of upgrades to our sound system. We need wireless mics for the musicals and so much more.”

The theatre program includes the performances throughout the school year as well as classes.

“We offer a beginning and advanced theatre class. Some of what we teach them includes how to prepare for a production. What they should be looking for. It’s just for the students to have fun, without doing an actual production,” Garcia said. “There are several technical classes that we offer. We work on sound, lighting, costumes, stage management, prop management, organization and more.”

There are about 80 students who participate in the after school performances. There are more than 100 students taking the classes.

“My goal with the classes and performances is to encourage people to become theatre patrons, consumers, performers or something more. I want them to continue this in some way throughout their life,” Garcia said.
