Members of the Marshall Middle School Intermediate Band focus on playing their instruments as they perform during the May 31 Band Pops Concert.
Marshall musicians perform at concert
Student musicians in the Marshall Middle School Instrumental Music Program, under the direction of Cameron Brown, gave an inspired performance during the year-ending Band Pops Concert on May 31 in the school’s Performing Arts Center. Following an introduction by Mr. Brown, the students played soundtracks from movies such as “Batman: Arkham City,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and highlights from “How to Train Your Dragon.”
Brown presented awards to top musicians during breaks between songs. He took time to make a statement about proposed San Diego Unified School District budget cuts that will greatly inhibit the school’s music program, saying that if the budget is approved as is, programs such as the one presented the night of May 31 would no longer be possible.
The concert continued as the school’s Advanced Band took their seats on the stage. This talented group continued the night’s theme by playing renditions of soundtracks from movies including “The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring,” “Love Theme from the Godfather” and highlights from “Wicked.”
As usual, the performances were carried out in a very disciplined and focused manner, nearly flawless, especially when one considers the ages of the young musicians. The audience, consisting of parents, family members and friends, offered enthusiastic applause following each group’s performance.
