Scripps Ranch author publishes an intriguing sequel

Scripps Ranch author Alex A. Kecskes published his second novel, “The Search for Dr. Noble,” in November of 2025.
“This novel is a sequel to my first book ‘Healer: A Novel,’ but it can stand alone. You don’t need to read ‘Healer’ to appreciate this one. I have some throwbacks and information that explains this one on its own,” Kecskes said.
The novel is a historical romance with science fiction.
“The main characters are Dr. Rene Noble and Dr. Charles Noble. They are married. The main plot is that they are trying to find each other. Dr. Rene Noble is in the 19th century, while Dr. Charles Noble is in the 25th century. They are separated by continents and 500 years. There is a large aspect of time travel in these novels,” Kecskes said.
The first novel, “Healer: A Novel,” was left on a cliffhanger.
“The first novel ends on Dr. Rene Noble trying to go back with Dr. Charles Noble to the 25th century. We didn’t know if Dr. Rene Noble was able to get to Dr. Charles Noble,” Kecskes said. “In this novel, we watch as they keep searching, but missing each other. Each chapter switches off from her perspective to his perspective.”
Another character that is featured in this novel is their daughter, Dr. Rose Noble, who is in the 19th century as well.
“Dr. Rose Noble goes to Paris to study medicine. Dr. Rose Noble and Dr. Rene Noble end up working with Madam Curie (a famous scientist known for her work in X-rays). Dr. Rene Noble and Dr. Rose Noble get infected with deadly radiation. The search for Dr. Charles Noble becomes more desperate, as he has technology from the 25th century,” Kecskes said.
His new novel took about 10 months to finish.
“The first book is more about the development of the characters. It plays into the romance a lot. This book is all about the characters, and a lot more science fiction,” Kecskes said.
Kecskes explained his inspiration for this series.
“I used to watch ‘Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman,’ a television series about a late 19th century doctor who ventured West. She faced a lot of challenges. The more you ventured West, in those times, a female doctor was not accepted. I watched as she had to explain herself and her credentials over and over again. She also lost many patients, as the technologies in medicine were not as advanced,” he said. “I’ve watched that entire series many times. I always wondered what it would have been like if she had met a doctor from a later century. The idea of that inspired this series.”
While he started this series about four years ago, Kecskes has been writing his whole life.
“I have written in various formats. I worked in advertising, which is how I learned to write well. I have written screen plays. I currently write for Hollywood Weekly magazine,” he said.
Kecskes is working on the third novel for this series. Each novel takes about nine months to a year to complete.
“The third novel will be a standalone sequel as well. The novel will center around Dr. Rose Noble,” he said.
