State, County close to Phase 3
The State of California will allow more openings with special guidelines beginning next Friday, June 12. The next phase includes schools, day camps, bars, gyms, campgrounds and professional sports. Nail salons are not included.
The County of San Diego is close to going into Phase 3 of openings, meaning most of the remaining businesses and facilities closed due to the COVID-19 crisis may be allowed to open again soon, with set restrictions.
The County also received guidance from the state about a number of the additional sectors that can reopen, with restrictions, as early as Friday, June 12. The County received reopening guidelines for the following industries:
- Gyms
- Hotels
- Bars and wineries
- Museums, galleries, zoos and aquariums
- Professional sports without spectators
- Day camps
- Campgrounds and RV parks
- Family entertainment (bowling alleys, batting cages, etc.)
- Card rooms and racetracks
- Music, film and television production
“All of the triggers are now green, and this is very good news,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “However, people must continue to follow public health guidance to ensure these triggers stay green.”
Wooten added that given the region’s current successes in responding to COVID-19 she is comfortable with the County having the authority to set its own pace to move into Stage 3 of reopening.
“We recognize that the community is hurting in terms of businesses being closed,” Wooten said. “Our metrics support the fact that we can open … We hope that other industries will also open up.”
COVID-19 cases in 92131
The County of San Diego reported cases of coronavirus in the 92131 ZIP Code area of Scripps Ranch are up to 18, an increase of three in the last week. Cases in Mira Mesa are up to 111. Poway has 42 cases. San Diego County reports the cases, broken down by residence listed for each patient.
Wolff will perform Saturday

Walk commemorates anniversary of D-Day
Donnie Edwards, a two-time All-Pro and a 2002 Pro Bowl selection who played 13 seasons with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers, and the Best Defense Foundation have teamed up with Events.com to host a Walk to commemorate the 76th anniversary of D-Day on Saturday, June 6.
The Walk is an opportunity for people to offer their support for America’s WWII veterans. Any time during the day or night on June 6, participants are encouraged to get out and walk five kilometers (5K or 3.1 miles), which represents the distance from Omaha Beach to Pointe Du Hoc on the shores of Normandy, France.

There is no cost to simply get out and participate in the Walk on June 6, however there are a number of options available to sign up and make a straight donation to the Foundation, or make a contribution to participate in the Walk and receive some great commemorative items.
The Best Defense Foundation’s mission is to help military veterans and their families. A cornerstone of the program is Edwards’ commitment to bring WWII Veterans back to foreign battlefields to help them find closure and camaraderie with their brothers in arms.

Marshall Middle School virtual promotion
Given the prohibition of mass gatherings and working within the San Diego County Health and Safety Guidelines, Marshall Middle School will hold Promotion 2020 as a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, June 9. All eighth graders had the opportunity to submit their own photo along with a message of gratitude and/or support for their classmates. The Video Production class is creating the virtual ceremony with student speakers, awards, and pictures of the promoting class of 2020. This pre-recorded video will play on June 9 at 10 a.m. Students will be able to watch and rewatch at their discretion.
SRHS graduation car parade
Scripps Ranch Parents have planned the Scripps Ranch High School Class of 2020 Graduation Car Parade starting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9. This is an event to celebrate the graduating seniors since an in-person gathering and ceremony for graduation will not be held this year due to the COVID-19 crisis. This is not an official school district event. An early map indicates the starting line will be at Red Cedar Drive and Ironwood Road. The route will head down Ironwood, turn right on Scripps Ranch Boulevard and end at the intersection with Aviary Drive – similar to the traditional Fourth of July parade route.
Beach parking to open
Starting June 9, beachgoers will be allowed to park in lots at local beaches, the County of San Diego announced today. Individual coastal communities may elect to enforce stricter regulations on parking lots in their area, so beachgoers should check whether lots at specific beaches are open before heading out the door.
