Boys soccer team drops a close one

The Scripps Ranch High School boys varsity soccer team lost in the final round of the CIF regional championship game in a shoot-out against Point Loma High School on Saturday, March 3. The Falcons lost the Division I Boys Soccer Championship final 4-5 in the shoot-out.

It was a great game with strong defense on both sides of the field. Scripps Ranch scored the first goal about 18 minutes into the second half, but Point Loma came back and scored a goal to even the game at 1-1, eventually sending it into overtime.

The same aggressive play and defense that existed during the regular time of the game continued in overtime and neither team scored a goal, leading to a penalty kick shoot-out. Scripps Ranch was up first and scored, followed by Point Loma also scoring. This continued until the fifth player for Scripps Ranch had his kick blocked by Point Loma’s goalie. Scripps Ranch had a chance to keep the game tied if it blocked the next kick from Point Loma. Up for Point Loma was their goalkeeper, who approached the ball, kicked and scored, bringing an end to the season for Scripps Ranch.
