Field hockey team enjoys great season
The Scripps Ranch High School varsity field hockey team is enjoying an incredible undefeated season this year with possibly its strongest team ever.
On Friday, Nov. 2, Scripps Ranch brought its 2018 record to a perfect 20-0 with a 3-1 victory over La Jolla High School. The team’s record includes an incredible 13 shut-outs.
The greatest victory by far occurred Oct. 26 in an away game against Serra High School. The Lady Falcons defeated Serra 1-0 in a nail-biting over-time victory. This was the first time a Scripps Ranch High varsity team has defeated Serra since 2012. This was only the second time since 2012 that a Serra varsity field hockey team has been shut-out. Serra was ranked in the top 25 in the entire nation and was number 1 in the state before Scripps Ranch beat them.
Regulation play ended in a scoreless tie. Victoria Mellow was able to score the winning goal for the Lady Falcons within the first few minutes of over-time play.
Scripps Ranch will end its regular season at home with a big re-match against Serra High on Tuesday, Nov. 6, starting at 3:15 p.m.
