Schauffele preps for Farmers Open
Xander Schauffele, a former Scripps Ranch High School star golfer, is shining brightly this week as he returned to San Diego to compete in the Farmers Insurance Open, a professional tournament on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Schauffele is ranked sixth in the world.
Schauffele was assigned to golf with Tiger Woods and Tony Finau during the tournament.
While the Farmers Insurance Open competition will take place Jan. 24-27, golfers in the tournament are tuning up their skills beforehand.
On Monday, Jan. 21, pro golfers in the tournament played the course with amateurs who paid $3,000 each to participate in the Charley Hoffman Foundation Pro-Am Golf Outing with the pros. The purpose of the Charley Hoffman Foundation “is to help raise money and awareness for children’s organizations that provide a positive environment to better their future through education, sports and health,” according to the organization’s website.
During the Pro-Am, Xander Schauffele was matched up with former Major League Baseball pitcher David Wells, a former Point Loma High standout; Mike Halbert; Joshua Muse; and Shawn Flanigan. The group was joined by Derek Uyeda, a putting and golf green reading coach; Stefan Schauffele, Xander’s father and golf coach; and caddie Austin Kaiser.
