Xander misses cut, but he’s not alone

Xander Schauffele, a former Scripps Ranch High School golfer, now a professional on the PGA Tour, did not make the cut to continue in this weekend’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego following play on Friday, Jan. 24. But he wasn’t alone. Fellow San Diegan Phil Mickelson also missed the cut.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, Schauffele was in a powerhouse threesome with Rick Fowler and Mickelson. All three are California guys.

Photos on this page are from Thursday.

Schauffele didn’t have a great round Thursday as he was 2 over par. He had a lot of work to do on Friday to make the cut for the weekend, but it wasn’t his day.

Schauffele played the South course at Torrey Pines, which is the harder of the two courses. On Friday, Schauffele was again matched with Michelson and Fowlers on the North course, which is considered slightly more forgiving to golfers.
