SRLL season is another success

Scripps Ranch Little League (SRLL) had another successful year both on and off the field after receiving a $10,000 donation from the San Diego Firefighters Union along with an award from Home Depot which allowed for much needed improvements at Jerabek Park.
This came after an award the year before from San Diego County and County Supervisor Joel Anderson of almost $40,000 which was used for rehabilitating the fields at the park along with replacing safety padding and the purchase of new equipment including state of the art orange safety bases and catcher’s equipment.
“One of our big focuses this year was to enhance our fundraising,” said SRLL President Ron Madrid. “We had a very good year in terms of fundraising.”
The Scripps Ranch Little League spring regular season concluded with its closing ceremonies on May 16, which included sportsmanship awards in which each team nominated one player. These honorees ranged from T-ball up to the Juniors and Challenger divisions. Closing Day also helped kick off the postseason that includes the Tournament of Champions (TOC) which runs through June and July.
“One of the focuses last year was to try to make sure that we had good processes and good financial backing for everything that we were planning to do,” Madrid said.
This is Madrid’s second year as SRLL president.
Scripps Ranch Little League assembles its all-star teams from all the different teams within each of the different age groups. These are the best players which are grouped together to make the strongest all-star teams, and they compete against the different leagues across District 32. The five official all-star teams began competition the week of June 15. Competition included the 8 to 10 year olds, 9 to 11 year-olds, the Little League All Stars (ages 10 to 12), the 13-year-old Intermediate Division, and the 14-year-old Junior Division. Scripps Ranch Little League also hosted its Little League 9U Summer Classic which is an annual youth baseball postseason tournament that started on June 18 and went through Father’s Day weekend featuring its two “Future Stars” teams.
The two SRLL “Little Stars” teams representing the MAPS (Machine Pitch) division for younger players transitioning into competitive baseball was hosted by Rancho Penasquitos Little League during that time as well. Scripps Ranch Little League features two primary seasons which are a formal Spring Season and an instructional Fall Ball Season. The main competitive season runs from early January to late May, with post-season tournaments extending into June and July.
