Local students win essay contest

Local students win essay contest

Winners of the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library’s 30th Anniversary Essay Contest were announced at the community-wide celebration hosted by Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library on Sept. 30.

Elementary school students had been asked to write an essay based on their adventures as a book in the children’s section of the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library.  The winning writers are Thea Yang, first place, second, grade, Miramar Ranch Elementary School; Clara Min, second place, fourth grade, Miramar Ranch Elementary School; and Adeline Crivello, third place, fourth grade, St. Gregory the Great Catholic School.

The winning essayists were invited to read their essays to an appreciative audience.

The presentation of awards was made by Bob Cronk, deputy director, San Diego Public Library; and Marni von Wilpert, San Diego District 5 City Councilmember, both of whom are Scripps Ranch residents.

Essay contest winners received a $25 gift card for the Library Shop (an independent bookstore and gift shop at the downtown Central Library) and a family membership in Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library in addition to a printed certificate. The winning essays are on display at the library.
