Friendship, interesting activities, informative speakers
Scripps Ranch area residents looking for friendship, interesting activities and informative speakers are finding all three through the local Sons in Retirement (SIR) group.
During the past several months, members and their spouses have participated in a variety of outings and special events. These have included a tour of an Amazon fulfillment center, a visit to the historic Julian mining district, and an upcoming tour of the San Diego Mormon Temple. The activities provide opportunities to learn about local history, industry and culture while enjoying the company of fellow members.
In addition to these special excursions, SIR members gather monthly on the fourth Wednesday for lunch at a local restaurant. Each luncheon features a guest speaker who shares insights and experiences on topics of community interest.
Dr. Ralf Dunkel was the featured speaker at last month’s luncheon. He discussed his experiences as a young aircraft crew chief and provided a unique perspective on military aviation, drawing from his service with both the East and West German Air Forces. His presentation generated considerable interest and lively discussion among attendees.
The social calendar continues with an upcoming wine-tasting happy hour at Knotty Barrel, giving members and their spouses another opportunity to relax, socialize and strengthen friendships.
SIR welcomes retired and semi-retired men who are interested in meeting new people, participating in local activities and enjoying informative programs. With a growing schedule of activities such as Pickle Ball, Golf, Bowling, Hiking, Wine Tasting and Poker with an emphasis on fellowship, the organization continues to attract members who value staying active and connected within the community.
