So much to do, so little time – and plenty of Halloween spirit! The Women’s Club calendar was packed with spooktacular activities in October. The witching hour arrived with a guided tour of the historic Whaley House and Old Town Cemetery, led by member Paula Marrone, who portrayed Mrs. Whaley for 17 years. With ghosts of the past as our companions, we stepped back in time to explore Old Town’s rich history and the Whaley House’s role in its early days. Then it was time to eat, drink and be scary over a delicious lunch at Café Coyote.

Halloween cast its spell across our activity groups, with festive decorations, costumes and plenty of spirited fun. From Bunco, Book Discussions, and Bridge to Fun and Games, Mahjong, Canasta, and Scrabble, members found plenty of ways to get into the spirit. Our Fun and Games group added a spooky twist to favorites such as Charades and Jeopardy, proving that a little hocus-pocus makes game day even more entertaining!

October’s treats continued with a visit to the San Diego Watercolor Society for its first international exhibition, where spectacular water media art from around the world worked its own kind of magic. Our monthly Happy Hour, organized by Sue Cauble, brought members to Vella Brasserie for another spirited gathering. With lively conversation and wonderful camaraderie, it’s no mystery why this group grows more popular each month!

As October’s Halloween festivities give way to November, members can look forward to a fascinating tour of the Navy SEAL Museum, followed in December by our annual Holiday Party – one of the Club’s most anticipated social events. Many thanks to Social Committee members Barbara Hanson, Paula Marrone and Marian Marum for planning these special gatherings. Our Ad-
venture Walking group wraps up October with a stroll along Coronado’s beach, then heads to San Elijo Lagoon’s beautiful trails in November. We extend our appreciation to Joni Low, Cathy Denis and Pam Ferrario for keeping us active and exploring.

November brings another cultural treat: the Metropol-itan Opera’s spectacular “Samson and Delilah,” broadcast live at Edwards Cinema. Special thanks to Barbara Measelle, Dei Spruce and Penney Homel for organizing our wonderful cultural outings.

Our Club’s many activities flourish thanks to our dedicated activity coordinators. We sincerely appreciate Victoria Parks for leading our three Bridge groups and our four Bunco coordinators: Rita Hubbard, Wendy Higgins, Paula Marrone and Sandy Hagen-Ansert. We also thank Elizabeth Young for Canasta; Carol Murphy for Fun and Games; Madeline Pantalone for Mahjong; and Lin Schoeneberg, Renie Martin and Stacy Apostol for leading our three Book Discussion groups. Special thanks to Lin for also coordinating Scrabble.

Our gratitude also goes to Barbara Hanson for organizing Pickleball, Lyn Cobb for coordinating our Theater group, and Kathy Steinhause for launching the new Golf group. We deeply appreciate these remarkable women whose time, enthusiasm and
creativity keep our club welcoming, active and filled with opportunities for every member.
