Club continues charitable programs; expands activities

The Scripps Ranch Women’s Club (SRWC) continues its longstanding commitment to supporting and strengthening the Scripps Ranch community through its Scholarship and Community Giving programs.
This year’s efforts are now well underway, with committees reviewing scholarship applications and meeting with selected candidates. At the same time, funding requests from local schools and community organizations are under review. Final award decisions will be made by the SRWC board in early May, with scholarship recipients and community grants announced later in the month. This work reflects the Women’s Club’s proud tradition of investing in the future of our community.
April brought a lively mix of experiences for our members, beginning on April 13 with a fascinating tour of the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. This guided visit provided an engaging look at the center’s history, its mission in developing elite athletes, and the impressive range of sports and training facilities on site. Later in the month, our Arts and Culture group enjoyed a visit to Art Alive at the San Diego Museum of Art, followed by a delightful luncheon in Balboa Park.
April also offered a special evening for theater enthusiasts who gathered for the Scripps Ranch Theatre production of “Lend Me a Soprano.” The evening was enhanced by a lovely pre-theater gathering hosted by Lyn and Greg Cobb – thank you, Lyn and Greg, for your warm and gracious hospitality. Members were then invited to the opening night post-show reception, with the opportunity to meet the cast and director. Rounding out the month, members took part in an Adventure Walk at Lake Poway, featuring a scenic lakeside hike followed by a luncheon at a nearby restaurant.
Exciting news! The Women’s Club is expanding its activities to meet growing member interest, with a new Knitting and Crocheting group beginning in May. Talented members Barbara Wesser and Kimberly Williams will lead the group, offering instruction, materials for getting started and a welcoming setting to work on creative projects while enjoying time together.
The new Knitting and Crocheting group will join our regular interest groups – Mahjong, Bridge, Bunco, Pickleball, Fun and Games, Canasta, Scrabble, Adventure Walking, Arts and Culture, and Book Discussions – further enriching the many ways members come together and share their interests.
This month, one of our Book Discussion groups had the pleasure of welcoming author C.S. Runn, who joined us to discuss his compelling new novel, “The Moral Conundrum,” centered on a fictional terrorist attack in San Diego.
Looking ahead, our Springtime/Mother’s Day Luncheon will be held in early May at La Gran Terraza on the beautiful University of San Diego campus.
