Field hockey team wins a barnburner
The powerful and highly-rated Scripps Ranch High School varsity field hockey team pulled out an overtime victory against Archbishop Mitty High School from San Jose in a two overtime shootout on Oct. 9 in Scripps Ranch.
It was an epic battle and a low-scoring affair. Mitty tied up the game 1-1 with 21 seconds remaining in regulation play. The game ultimately went to sudden death penalty shots after remaining tied after a 10 minute overtime and a five round penalty shot shootout. Scripps Ranch won on penalty shots 2-1.
Later, the players from both teams enjoyed a luncheon together, celebrating the 14th annual Northern California vs. Southern California event, complete with commemorative T-shirts. Next year, Scripps Ranch will travel north for the contest as the teams rotate each season.
