
Pickleball team captures medals
The Epic Pickleball team from the Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club qualified and traveled to compete in the World Pickleball Tournament (WPT) Amateur Invitational Championship 2025 at the Rhythm & Rally Sports & Events complex (the world’s largest indoor pickleball venue) in Macon, Georgia.
The event was held Jan. 16-20. The Scripps Ranch Epic Pickleball team members brought home medals in every division they entered.
Here are the results for the Epic Pickleball team from Scripps Ranch:
• 2025 WPT Champions 3.5 Men’s Doubles 40+ 50+ – Lane Vance and Mark Schmitt
• 2025 WPT National Champions 3.0 Women’s Doubles 30+ 40+ – Danielle Luster and Tamara Krause
• 2025 WPT silver medalists 3.5 Mixed Doubles 50+ – Danielle Luster and Mark Schmitt
• 2025 WPT bronze medalists 3.5 Mixed Doubles 40+ – Tamara Krause and Lane Vance
The Scripps Ranch team is sponsored by Epic Pickleball.
The World Pickleball Tournament Amateur Invitational Championship is the world’s largest amateur pickleball event. It offers the largest amateur prize money: $175,000 total purse.
“We had a wonderful time and a great experience at the tournament and were supported not only by Epic Pickleball, but by the coaching staff and the many good practice matches we enjoyed at the Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club,” said team member Mark Schmitt.
There is a quickly growing pickleball community in Scripps Ranch. For example, the Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club pickleball coaching staff has recently increased, reflecting this demand. Connor McCartney, the Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club coach, will now be working with his brother, Spencer, and Jessica Mason as new instructors. Connor and Jessica both play professionally and are Selkirk Sport-sponsored pros. Selkirk Sport is a leading pickleball equipment brand.
