Pop Warner team goes to title game

The Scripps Ranch Pop Warner and Cheer Association 12u football team won a thrilling 32-28 semi-final contest against the Rancho Hills Titans on Nov. 13 to advance to the championship game.

Scripps Ranch is set to host the Coronado Islanders in the Nov. 20 championship game, 5 p.m. at Scripps Ranch High School.

The game against Rancho Hills was a see-saw affair in the first half, but the Titans seemed to take control with a decent lead in the third quarter.

The Falcons fought back to take the lead late in the game, and the team’s defense toughened. The game became very physical, but Scripps Ranch pounded away with its run game, often breaking away for long gains and touchdowns. The Falcons took the lead just before the 2-minute mark of the fourth quarter.

The Titans threatened but the Falcons grabbed an interception. Then Scripps Ranch did everything possible to run out the final seconds, trying not to give the ball back to their opponents. Surprisingly, Scripps Ranch threw a pass on its last play. The ball fell incomplete, but the play lasted long enough to run the final 4 seconds off the clock to end this nail biter and give the Falcons a big victory.
