Welcome Club plans a busy spring
By Denise Stewart
Now that the weather is warmer and gathering in groups feels safer and more comfortable for most folks, the Scripps Ranch Welcome Club is filling its calendar with a variety of activities.
At the very end of March, a beach walk with longtime club leader Dorothy Mildice brought members back to a favorite activity. They all went to lunch together after the walk to celebrate being able to enjoy a fun and heal-thy event with friends.
April’s doings included all the usual book club meetings, Bunco, trail walking, craft making, and the regular monthly meeting at the Community Center. That was a Meet and Greet event that gave new members and those who have not been active in a while an opportunity to get comfortable and familiar with the group.
Another Welcome Club pre-theatre party will take place before the last performance of this month’s play at Scripps Ranch Theatre. Members will bring a dish to share with other theater enthusiasts at a member’s home before going to the play. This month’s play is a comedy featuring a female cast that will do a modern take on “The Taming.” Members have been enjoying these social times and the performances as a regular Welcome Club event for many years.
A lunch and a movie occasion are scheduled toward the end of the month, also. The date and film were not definite at press time, but the club’s website will include the details a few days before the event.
Coming up in May, a Coffee Klatch is slated at outgoing President JoAnn Farmen’s home. These morning events draw a chatty group who enjoy sharing the companionship of other members along with the tasty morning treats. JoAnn will be assisted by a team of co-hosts who will make the table an irresistible temptation.
Along with the warmer weekends, outdoor potluck suppers, known as TGIs, will be bringing together the club members, their spouses and friends for delightful evenings. Garden parties with delicious dishes, congenial folks and sometimes a bit of music make for friendly gatherings.
Welcome Club has been gathering local residents for social events for more than 40 years. Most occasions are held on the Ranch, and other times the club ventures out to places and events around the city.
