Garden tour makes a perfect evening
By Denise Stewart
The longer, warmer evenings that we are enjoying are perfect opportunities for tours of local gardens. The Scripps-Mesa Garden Club is taking advantage of the blooming season. They are gathering in members’ yards to share the lovely results of their hobby.
In June, Debbie Honeycutt amazed the club with the unique design of her landscaping and intrigued them with her collection of plants from all over the world. The area around her home is tailored to her needs for a place to do the work of supporting her plants; a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of her plants, and a place to share her unique flora with other gardening enthusiasts.
Debbie has eliminated ground cover and its need for irrigation by covering her garden floor with pulverized granite. Her irrigation system focuses directly on each plant or group of plants with the same water needs.
This month the gardeners will visit a new member’s garden for the first time for their regular evening meeting on the fourth Tuesday. Seeing her garden’s design and learning from her gardening experiences will be another pleasant and informative event.
August’s gathering will be a summer celebration with a potluck dinner at another member’s lavishly planted yard. The hostess is a pro at flower arranging, so there will be an abundance of blooms to appreciate.
Scripps-Mesa Garden Club has been part of our community’s activities since 1991. The website has helpful plant related articles. Contact information is there also. Scrippsmesagardenclub.com.
