Learning to grow bountiful fruit trees

Soil testing, fertilization, tree selection, planting, pest and disease control, and harvesting tips will all be part of orchard consultant Tyler Trimble’s talk at the Jan. 27 meeting of the Scripps-Mesa Garden Club. Starting at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Scripps Miramar Ranch library, Trimble will share his years of hands-on experience in orchard management.

Trimble’s presentation of his knowledge of how to nurture a wide variety of fruit trees and to enjoy bountiful harvests each year will be followed by a Q&A session when he will answer specific questions from the audience.

The Scripps-Mesa Garden Club has been a part of our community since the ’90s. The group meets monthly except for December and learns from professionals and Master Gardeners, so club members stay updated on the best practices in meeting local gardening challenges and get the best results from their time and effort.

In the longer daylight evenings, garden tours are part of the club’s program.

With the upcoming renovation of the regular meeting place at the library, it is likely that future meetings will take place at the Community Center on Cypress Canyon Road. The fourth Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. will remain as the same gathering time. The garden tour locations will be announced in the spring.
