New Excessive Heat Warning issued
(Sept. 30) The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warning for San Diego County Valleys this afternoon, effective until Thursday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures 15 to 20 degrees above average will be seen through Friday. Expect dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 108 in some areas of the county during the course of the Excessive Heat Warning.
In addition, a Heat Advisory will go in effect from 8 p.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. Friday. Temperatures could rise to 102 degrees in some areas of the county during the Heat Advisory, according to the National Weather Service.
Fire conditions in San Diego County remain high. Another wildfire near Alpine started late this afternoon. This one had grown to 5 acres with a moderate rate of spread at about 4 p.m. Structures were expected to be threatened in the area. Firefighting equipment is on the scene and firefighting helicopter was enroute.
Earlier, a wildfire broke out on Camp Pendleton and threatened a residential complex, but is under control. The Camp Pendleton Fire Department is conducting mop-up operations.
Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room if one is available, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors by telephone, video conferencing or if in person, while adhering to social distancing recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Temperatures should slowly trend downward through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
