The Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park Series presents The Mighty Untouchables this Sunday, Sept. 10, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Hoyt Park.

This is a band that’s sure to get the crowd up and dancing. The Mighty Untouchables play everything from Motown to classic rock, along with Latin, country, current pop hits and more. The band is a multi-cultural mix of musicians and singers who will please audiences of all tastes with their extensive and diverse collection of material.

This is a free concert for all residents of the community. Those planning to attend may bring picnic baskets, and lawn chairs or beach chairs that are low to the ground. Plastic tarps are not allowed because they kill the grass. Pets are also not allowed. Visit symphonyinthepark.org.

Decorated cookies at the Farmer’s Market

Cookie lovers will certainly appreciate the finely-decorated, delicious sugar cookies available at the Two Bundles Bakes booth in the Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market each Saturday.

Two Bundles Bakes offers hand-crafted, individually-decorated specialty cookies. These cookies are colorful, tasty artistic treasures, lovingly made one-by-one by Anny Diaz Rodriguez, a mother of two. Her two children, a 5-year-old-girl and a 2-year-old boy, are the inspiration for her home-based business and the “Two Bundles” part of the name.

She sells her cookies for $3 each at the Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market, and the more complicated cookie creations, such as her detailed Spider Man cookies, sell for $5 each.

“The most popular … I would say are the Mickey and Minnie (Mouse) cookies,” she said. “The baby shower cookies and the custom cookies are pretty popular.”

Anny makes her own frosting. There are even some darling cookies for girls trimmed in shiny gold frosting. The gold icing is created with an edible sugar called Luster Dust.

Where does she get her creative ideas for the cookies?

“I usually come up with whatever the kids are looking for, and the movies, the characters,” Anny explained. “I get inspired by my kids.”

Anny, a Poway resident, has been operating her small business for about one year. She sells her cookies at farmer’s markets, and also fills special orders. She creates cookies for such events as baby showers, bridal showers and birthdays.

“I even do cookie parties where I come and teach the kids how to decorate the cookies, so that’s fun, too.” she said.

Two Bundles Bakes can usually be found each Saturday at the Scripps Ranch Farmers Market. Custom orders may be made by visiting the pages on Facebook or Instagram.

The Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market is open for business from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every single Saturday at 10380 Spring Canyon Road, in the Innovations Academy parking lot. Visit srfm.org.

SRHS Homecoming
The Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS) football team will play University City High in its traditional Homecoming game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8. The game will be featured as the “KUSI Prep Pigskin Report’s Corvette Diner Game of the Week.” The JV football team will play the University City High JVs at 3:30 p.m. Friday. SRHS will hold its Homecoming Dance from 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 in the school’s Quad.

‘Accomplice’ opens this weekend
Scripps Ranch Theatre will open its production of “Accomplice” at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8. The play is described as a story filled with deception and talk of adultery and murder. “Accomplice” is directed by Jacquelyn Ritz with an accomplished cast of San Diego performers including Kenny Bordieri, Hannah Logan, Tatiana Mac and Charles Peters.

The play will run through Oct. 8 at the Legler Benbough Theatre on the campus of Alliant International University, 9783 Avenue of Nations. Performance times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Visit scrippsranchtheatre.org.

Cyder is for the dogs
Newtopia Cyder invites everyone to celebrate the unofficial start to all things fall from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. Newtopia will donate 20 percent of all drink and merchandise sales to California Labradors, Retrievers & More.

Labs & More is a volunteer-run dog rescue organization whose goal is to rescue and find forever homes for abandoned Labs and Lab mixes.

Help support Labs and More while socializing with friends. Meet and mingle with some of the group’s adoptable dogs and enjoy great beverages.

There is a special promotion for teachers, school employees and college students as well. To help celebrate heading back to school, each person who presents his or her teacher or school ID when checking in at the door will receive a complimentary raffle ticket. Additional tickets will be available for purchase. The raffle promises to have great prizes and the winners will be pulled around 5:45 p.m.

The Active Scripps Ranch Singles group will gather at the Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park concert with The Mighty Untouchables from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Hoyt Park. A bit of trivia provided by Active Scripps Ranch Singles organizer Steve Wolff: The lead vocalist for The Mighty Untouchables did the Mossy Nissan “Moves You” jingle.). Sanctuary Lounge will provide musical entertainment for its guests from 7 to 1:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8. Singer/songwriter Kyle Smith will start off the evening with his smooth sounds. When Kyle plays live, his main goal is to entertain. Whatever the crowd wants to hear, he will play. 

Smith’s performance will be followed on Friday night by DJ Gavin, getting everyone out on the floor.

Pet events at Unleashed
The Scripps Ranch Unleashed pet supply store will hold a couple of pet adoption events this weekend. On Saturday, Sept. 9, Unleashed will host adoptable canines from It’s the Pits Dog Rescue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also on Saturday, Unleashed will offer Free Puppy Playtime for pet owners and their young dogs from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Scripps Ranch store. This is a one-hour socialization time for puppies to play with one another. Dogs should be between eight weeks to six months of age. Pet owners must bring their pup’s vaccination records. Build a lifetime bond with your puppy while learning about puppy play and social development from a Petco Positive Dog Trainer.

On Sunday, Sept. 10, the Animal Rescue Resource Foundation (ARRF) will have pets at Unleashed to show to potential new owners from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
