Primitive but extremely tasty

Rose Malihan began experimenting with paleo baking and developed some very pure and healthy products to help lead a healthy, natural lifestyle. So, she started a small business called Petite Paleo Bakery in May and now she brings her baked products to sell each week at the Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market.

“I’ve been into healthy baking for a few years since I started eating paleo and I wanted to have healthier baking options for my daughter,” Malihan said. “I have a big sweet tooth and so … I started testing recipes out and (her daughter) loved it, my friends loved it. So, I decided to start doing this as a business.”

Paleo food is a trend that has been popular for a few years and essentially features the concept of basic food prepared the way primitive man used to eat.

“This is how our ancestors ate. So, no grains, no dairy, no soy, no refined sugars,” Malihan explained.

For sweeteners, she uses honey, organic coconut sugar and dates.

Her best sellers are her chocolate chip cookies. She also offers vegan date truffles and she recently added petite pies. Other items include low-carb keto rolls and tapioca wraps. The tapioca is a flower made from cassava, and the wraps can be used like tortillas.

In addition, she has cherry clafoutis, a French dessert which Malihan compared to custard.

“If you like custard, you will enjoy the texture,” she said.

“My passion is healthy living and I lead an active lifestyle,” Malihan added. “These are products that can help you continue on that path, if that is something you are interested in.”
