Protein & energy in every cup
Brian Busching, founder of BuzzFit Protein Coffee, might make coffee drinkers out of everyone. He created a medium roast instant Columbian coffee. It has 10 grams of protein and 75 milligrams of caffeine in each cup. There are no artificial ingredients and no sugar.
Now, BuzzFit Protein Coffee is available at the Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market.
“One of the benefits of having protein in the coffee is one: it levels out the acidity, so it is very easy drinking it on an empty stomach,” Busching explained. “Two, it can serve as a meal replacement. So, if you normally skip breakfast, now you can get nutritional value from your coffee … normally (coffee) doesn’t offer any at all. Three: It speeds up your metabolism and increases muscle growth, too. So, it’s a really good cup of coffee that’s good for you. There’s no ingredients that you don’t need and has the nutrition that you do (need).”
BuzzFit, which has been in business for two years, offers coffee by the cup at the Farmer’s Market, and also has containers of the instant coffee for sale for customers who want to drink it at home.
“Take two tablespoons, put it into an empty mug, add 8 ounces of hot water and stir,” Busching said. “So, it’s really easy to make at home. It’s easy to travel with.”
Busching orders the ingredients and has it manufactured in Chula Vista. It took him about half a year to create the right formula.
“The biggest challenge was normally protein doesn’t want to mix in hot temperatures. Picture an egg in boiling water. It will solidify. (Protein) coagulates and becomes a lumpy mess,” Busching explained. “I needed to have a protein that was specifically engineered for this coffee. … Once I accomplished that, the rest just kind of fell in place.”
BuzzFit Protein Coffee is available on Amazon and can be ordered from the website BuzzFit.com. Busching has also been taking his coffee to trade shows as well.
“People love it. I’ve sold out every time,” he said.
Now, BuzzFit coffee can be paired with BuzzFit Protein Donuts, which became available in January.
“They are gluten free, vegan and high in protein,” Busching said.
BuzzFit Protein Donuts each contain 15 grams of protein, 7 grams of carbohydrates and 2 grams of sugar.
“And they taste delicious,” Busching said.
