Library construction and closure update

While the uncertainty that has plagued Scripps Miramar Ranch Library staff, the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library and library users for the past year has been resolved, this is definitely a “good news, bad news” scenario.

First the good news:

The much needed and long anticipated replacement of the library’s roof and HVAC system is expected to start along with the resumption of the parking lot expansion work.

Now the bad news:

The library will be closed beginning the week of May 11 for approximately eight months and, if (and this is a big “if”) all the work goes smoothly, the library should reopen sometime during this coming winter. The last day that the library will be open before construction begins is Saturday, May 9.

Book drop

Be advised that starting May 9 – or possibly even earlier that week, the book drop at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library will be locked. It will not be possible to return books to the local community library during the entire time the library is closed. In addition, after May 9, the parking lot will be blocked to allow the storage of construction equipment and materials, so there will be no public access to the library or its grounds.

Books on hold

Books on hold will be automatically transferred to the Mira Mesa Branch Library, 8405 New Salem St. Library patrons can select a different preferred library to pick-up books on hold through their online San Diego Public Library accounts.
