‘Shrek, The Musical’
San Diego Junior Theatre proudly presents “Shrek The Musical,” the hilarious and heartwarming stage adaptation of the beloved DreamWorks film. Packed with laughter, larger than life characters, and an unforgettable score, this fairy tale remix proves that happily ever after comes in all shapes and sizes. “Shrek The Musical” runs Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. through May 10. The popular Pajama Night is Friday, May 1. Kids attending in their favorite pajamas, or as their favorite Shrek character, will get a special gift. Junior Theatre will provide an ASL-interpreted performance on May 9 at 2 p.m.
‘August Wilson’s Fences’
The Old Globe presents “August Wilson’s Fences,” playing on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage through May 4 at the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center in San Diego’s Balboa Park, 1363 Old Globe Way. Set in 1957, the play follows Troy Maxson, a former Negro League baseball star, now a sanitation worker. Grappling with the burden of his broken dreams, Troy struggles to assert control over his family and his future.

Viva La Música
Viva La Música is a SeaWorld San Diego festival celebrating the richness of Latin culture every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 1-17. It features live music, artists and food. SoCal Taco Fest joins the celebration May 2 and 3. The event showcases the region’s best taco spots, live music, DJs, Lucha Libre matches and Chihuahua beauty pageants.

Walk for Animals
On Saturday, May 2, San Diego Humane Society will host its 32nd annual Walk for Animals at NTC Park in Liberty Station. Thousands of supporters and their canine companions will unite to celebrate the human-animal bond and raise life-saving funds for animals in need. ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’
“Who Do You Think You Are?” – a staged reading of eight original 10-minute plays presented by The WhatNext? Collective will take place May 2, 5 p.m. at Old Town Theatre, 4040 Twiggs St. The evening spans a full range of female defiance, from soccer moms on a bleacher finding their voices, to a cancer survivor turning her diagnosis into a stand-up set.

Forever Motown
Forever Motown: So Good For The Soul is a dynamic tribute show that celebrates the rich legacy of Motown Records. The production showcases the music of legendary artists such as The Four Tops, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Mary Wells, Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell, and Stevie Wonder. With a talented cast and live band, the performance delivers nearly 30 non-stop hits, including classics. 7:30 p.m.; Poway Center for the Performing Arts, 15498 Espola Road.

An American Celebration
Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with the Poway Symphony Orchestra and a vibrant program of iconic works by 20th-century American composers. Highlighting the program is George Gershwin’s unforgettable “Rhapsody in Blue.” This popular masterpiece features noted San Diego pianist Dan Yu as guest soloist. Also included are selections by Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein. May 31,4 p.m., Poway Center for the Performing Arts, 15498 Espola Road.
Poway Spring Festival
The Poway Spring Festival, presented by the Poway Chamber of Commerce, is a free event featuring the popular Classic Car Show, a diverse selection of food vendors, unique artisans and crafters, live entertainment, a beer garden and a family-friendly kid zone. The Poway Spring Festival will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Midland Road, between Poway Road and Hilleary Place.
