Heat advisory ends tonight
This week's heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service for San Diego County is scheduled to end this evening at 9 p.m. and a slight break in the heat is expected until Saturday, when temperatures are expected to rise again:
“Heat advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. this evening.
High Temperatures: 95-103.
Location: Inland valleys to the foothills.
Outlook: Lower temperatures are expected Thursday and Friday, then slight increase in temperatures this weekend.
A heat advisory means that precautions should be taken to reduce your exposure to the heat of the day, if possible. Drink plenty of fluids. Frequent air-conditioned spaces and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Those working or spending time outdoors, the elderly, children and those unaccustomed to excessive heat will be most susceptible to dangerous heat illness.”
Hope remains as video surfaces
The San Diego Police Department stated that a surveillance video shows Taiheng Sun, a Scripps Ranch resident who has been missing since Thursday, June 15, walking toward West Sycamore Park on the day he was reported missing. The video shows him entering the park about 8:35 a.m.
A photo from the video, taken from a camera atop a nearby utility pole, shows Sun wearing a blue shirt, a dark blue hat, dark gray pants and carrying a white jacket.
Sun was last seen on Thursday in his home on Maple Grove Lane near Sycamore Trail Road. Police describe Sun as an Asian male, 85 years of age, 5-feet-6-inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. He has been missing from the Stonebridge area since Thursday. Sun suffers from Alzheimer's and speaks little English. He was home when his family left for the day, but was missing when they returned after 7:30 that evening.
Police ask anyone with information to call them at (619) 531-2000.
Club members can 'Camp at the Club'
The Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club is holding its family overnight campout “Camp at the Club” at the Aviary Drive location this weekend for families that are club members. Families can bring tents and camp out in the grassy area of the club, enjoy a dip in the pool and be treated to a barbecue dinner Saturday evening and a pancake breakfast the next morning.
The staff will run family games, art projects and show a children's movie with treats Saturday night. Later, adults can enjoy the evening under the stars at the tennis gazebo with chips, salsa and drinks.
“Camp at the Club” will begin Saturday, June 24 at 4 p.m. and will end on Sunday morning, June 25 at 10 a.m. The event is for Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club members and their guests only. The cost is $60 per family of four and $15 for each additional family member. Reservations are required. Those interested may sign up at the Aviary location, 9875 Aviary Drive, or call (858) 271-6222​​.
A similar event for dads and kids will be held the weekend of Aug. 5.
